The 130-metre Global Sports Tower will have an internal area of 84,000 sq m to include more than 30 different sports facilities

A design for the world’s tallest sports tower, to be built in Riyadh’s Sports Boulevard development, has been approved.

The mega project is part of the $23 billion development launched by King Salman in 2019 to expand green areas in the capital, including the world’s biggest city park. The other three projects are King Salman Park, Green Riyadh and Riyadh Art.

The design was approved by the Sports Boulevard Foundation board, which is chaired by Crown Prince and Prime Minister Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

The 130-metre Global Sports Tower will have an internal area of 84,000 sq m to include more than 30 different sports facilities.

The tower will house the world’s tallest indoor climbing wall at 98 metres and the world’s highest and digitised 250 metre running track.

The 135km Sports Boulevard project connects the West to the East of Riyadh through a grid of green pathways for pedestrians, cyclists, athletes and horse riders.

The project includes more than 4.4 million sq m of greenery and open spaces and up to 50 multidisciplinary sports facilities.

In addition, more than three million sq m will be dedicated to unique destinations and investment zones.

Real estate consultancy Knight Frank said in May that Riyadh and its surroundings account for nearly 40 percent of the value of existing construction contracts in Saudi Arabia, at $54 billion.

The provinces of Mecca – which includes Jeddah – and Tabuk in the north of the kingdom follow the capital region, with $28.7 billion and $28.5 billion in awarded contracts respectively.
